Amy Goodman to speak
May 23 in Asheville, NC
Award-winning journalist Amy Goodman will speak at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May
23 at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College as part of a national
tour for her new book, "Standing Up to Madness: Ordinary Heroes in
Extraordinary Times." The talk will be held in AB-Tech's Ferguson
Auditorium on the Asheville campus. Admission is $10, with proceeds going
to the nonprofit Mountain Area Information Network (MAIN) and its radio
station, WPVM-LP, 103.5 FM.

"Standing Up to Madness" chronicles the achievements of everyday citizens
across the United States who have challenged government and corporate
power and prevailed.
Goodman co-authored the book with her brother, investigative reporter
David Goodman. The book is currently 29th on the New York Times bestseller
list.
Malaprops will be selling "Standing Up to Madness" at the event, and a
booksigning follows Goodman's talk. A 5 p.m. reception for Goodman is also
planned at Malaprops if her schedule permits.

she is truly independent and fearless," said MAIN founder and executive
director, Wally Bowen.
"It's hard to imagine a corporate journalist today standing up to power
like Edward R. Murrow did against Sen. Joe McCarthy a half century ago,"
said Bowen. "Amy Goodman is one of the few 'unembedded' journalists today
who is keeping Murrow's legacy alive," he said.
Goodman hosts the daily, syndicated show, "Democracy Now!", which is heard
on more than 750 public access TV and community radio stations, including
WPVM.
"Democracy Now!" is broadcast locally Monday-Friday at 8 a.m., noon and 6
p.m. on WPVM, and it can be streamed live at wpvm.org. MAIN and WPVM are
also bringing the video version of "Democracy Now!" to URTV this summer.
